Drug uses
Viagra is included into a group of phosphodiesterase inhibitors. This medicine is commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence). When it is combined with sexual stimulation, it works by relaxing muscles and increasing blood flow into the penis. Viagra is not used in women or children. The medication may also be used for other purposes.
What should I know about Viagra?
Do not take the medication if you are using other nitrates, including nitroglycerin (Nitrolingual, Nitrostat, Nitro-Bid, Nitro-Dur), isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate), and isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, ISMO, Monoket). If you are using azole antifungals (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole), delavirdine, erythromycin,cimetidine, mibefradil, rifamycins, high blood pressure medicines or other drugs for impotence, you may need additional monitoring. You shouldn’t take more than a 25 mg dose of Viagra in a 48-hour period, if you are taking an HIV protease inhibitor.
